Get Out of Your Comfort Zone: Tap into Your Inner Extrovert

There are three types of “verts” in this world:

  • An introvert is a quiet person that does not find it easy to talk to others.
  • An extrovert thrives on being around others.
  • An ambivert is a combination of both the extrovert and introvert.

Nothing is wrong with being the quiet introvert because in every introvert lies a bit of an extrovert brewing inside of them.

Sociable, outgoing, talkative and friendly are words that come to mind when thinking of the typical extrovert.

It is hard overcoming being introverted when you are used to being in your personal bubble. Being shy can sometimes bring limitations to your life. Shyness comes from many things such as fear of meeting new people, lack of self-confidence and feeling alone/invisible.

There is not any single person in this world that is 100 percent an introvert or an extrovert. Oftentimes, many people possess the qualities of both.

Even if you think you are 100 percent an introvert, everyone has a bit of extroversion inside of them.

There are ways to step out of your comfort zone and tap into your inner extrovert:

Stay off your phone

This can be a huge challenge for both introverts and extroverts. Everywhere you look almost everyone is tuned into their smartphone on the latest social media website/app. Being on your phone can leave you unconnected with the world.

When seeing people go out to restaurants people are often tuning out what is going on around them. Getting off your phone and socializing with the people of the real world is a great first step to getting out of your shell.

Always Acknowledge People

Get in the habit of always greeting people no matter who they are. Saying hello isn’t awkward at all!

Take Interest in People

When someone is talking to you, genuinely look like you are listening. Make eye contact and smile at the person that is speaking to you. If you do not show someone that you are genuinely interested in their conversation, it will show.

Brush up on Current Events

It is always great to be knowledgeable about what is going on in the world. Doing a quick Google search of what is going on in the world keeps you up to date with what is going on and helps you hold better conversations.

Practice Smiling

It takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile, so smile! No one wants to talk to someone with a sour look on their face all the time. Smiling makes you look approachable while also making people think that you are in a great mood.

Practice Conversations

We all talk to ourselves from time to time. Sit in front of a mirror and begin practicing conversations. Making conversation with yourself in the mirror may at first feel a little awkward but giving yourself proper eye contact will give you a lead way on how to talk to other people.

Body Language

Body language is everything, so loosen up your body. When talking to other people, introverts sometimes stiffen up and become fidgety. Appearing relaxed will make conversations go smoothly.

Charge Up

You may be thinking, “What does this mean?” Many introverts get burned out from trying to socialize because they are not used to socializing. As an introvert, taking time to yourself and mentally and physically preparing yourself to step outside of your comfort zone is an essential part of tapping into your inner extrovert.

Find Yourself

This tip is the most important because how can you expect to learn about other people if you do not even know yourself? Learn your interests, what type of social activities you like and your strengths.

Getting out of your shell can sometimes be hard. Every introvert has a bit of an extrovert inside of them. There is nothing wrong with being an introvert. Stepping outside of your comfort zone is the best way to go when you are trying to find your inner extrovert.
